Coatings are coverings that are applied to the surface of an object. In many cases coatings are applied to improve surface properties of the substrate, such as appearance, adhesion, wetability, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and scratch resistance. There are many different types of coatings available.
Many different seamless flooring materials are available. These are usually latex, polyester, urethane or epoxy compounds which are applied in liquid form to provide a completely seamless floor covering. These are usually found in wet areas such as laboratories or food processing plants. These may have granular or rubberized particles added to give better traction. In the Pacific Northwest, deck coatings are very common. With the high annual rainfall in this area, it is very important to keep your buildings and home dry. Deck Coatings when properly installed will control the flow of water on horizontal surfaces. Usually to fall off the edge of the deck or into a gutter. There are several different types of deck coatings such as a urethane, polyurea, cementitious and PMMA. Each one has its distinct advantages and disadvantages.
